Avian Abstraction: Bronze Cast

Students in Professor Dwight Mickelson’s Sculpture 340 class visited the Elsie Welter Natural History Museum in the Integrated Science Center (ISC) and chose a “favorite” bird species. They sculpted an exact replica in clay, then created an abstraction of the bird in bronze. The goal was to sculpt an abstracted bird form that revealed an essence of the actual bird.
